Blackboard is Columbus State's online Learning Management System which contains important course materials such as Assignments, Quizzes and Tests, Discussion Boards, and Grades. Watch this short video to learn more.

• Need a hands-on tutorial? Take the Interactive Blackboard orientation to practice important skills. This is often required for first year students, especially those who are taking COLS 1100.

The first week of the Term is a critical time for the remote learner. It is very easy to fall victim to procrastination and get behind in course work. If you can complete a few simple steps during the first week of classes (the first day is best), you should be on your way to a successful term.

Before your Course Begins, You Should...

• Check out cscc.edu/online101, CSCC's virtual resource portal for a successful online learning experience.
• Get familiar with Self-Service - financial aid, registration, final grades, forms, and more
• Pay your fees - fees are generally due 5 days before the start of the Term
• Purchase your books
• Discover your username and password
• Enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication with Duo
• Access your CSCC email account and/or set up your CSCC email on your iPhone or Android phone
• Access Blackboard - make sure you can log in; courses will appear 4 days before they begin
• Check out IT Support Resources for helpful technology resources
• Create a study area - as difficult as it may be, try to carve out a quiet, safe place where you can read, take notes, and work on assignments
• Visit the Computer Commons in TL 116 (Center for Technology & Learning) to use a computer or printer.

On the First Day of the Term, You Can...

• Install optional software, including Microsoft Office (free)
• Connect to the secure CSCC wireless network (Wi-Fi) when you are on campus for the best experience.

On the First Day of your Course, You Should...

• Check your CSCC email and look for any emails from your instructors
• Access your course

  Most instructors will help guide you through the layout of the course through the Announcements or Syllabus. If you have any questions or concerns about the course, or what you should do next, contact you instructor immediately. Find their contact info: College Directory.

  1. Log into Blackboard
  2. Click on your course
  3. Read any Announcements
  4. Locate and read the course Syllabus
  5. Locate and read any Assignments
• Plan your term - set a study schedule, note when assignments and exams are due and make any necessary arrangements to complete the work on time

During the Term, You Should...

• Plan your study schedule in advance - set aside blocks of time per course
• Start work before it's due - give yourself plenty of time for assignments
• Ask questions - your instructor is there to help; send them a polite email if you get stuck
• Keep your study area organized
• Reach out for help - tutoring, advising , counseling

Help with your Course

Contact your instructor. Course help includes assistance with understanding material, submitting assignments and tests, resetting assignments or tests, accessing content, and due dates.

• or Look-up your instructor's name in the College Directory
