You can place a softphone call in three ways:

Searching the Columbus State Directory

  1. Tap Contacts  in the Jabber hub.
     
  2. Type the person’s name in the Search or call field and look under the Directory section.
     
  3. Tap the  next to the appropriate contact’s name in the search results.
     
  4. Tap the Call button.
    (The call is placed to the person’s Columbus State telephone number.)
     

Typing the Telephone Number

  1. Tap Contacts  in the Jabber hub.
     
  2. Tap in the Search or call field.
     
  3. Tap the waffle icon.

  4. Type the person’s phone number in the Jabber hub Search or call field.
     
  5. Tap the green phone icon below the Search or call field.
    (The call is placed to the entered telephone number.)
     

Using your Contacts List

  1. Tap Contacts  in the Jabber hub.
     
  2. Tap the  next to the appropriate contact’s name in the search results.
     
  3. Tap the Call button.
    (The call is placed to the person’s Columbus State telephone number.)

You must be logged in to the Jabber application to receive a call using your softphone. Settings affect a telephone number regardless if they are set on your desk phone or your softphone. So, for example, if your forward your desk phone to another number, your softphone is also forwarded to that number and you will not receive calls. Changing the setting on one also changes the setting on the other.

When you receive an incoming call, you’ll see a call window open on your device screen.

  • Tap Accept to accept the call.
  • Tap Decline to forward the call to voicemail.

NOTE: Call forwarding is not enabled by default and is approved on a case-by-case basis.

ENABLE CALL FORWARDING

  1. Tap the icon in the top left that has your picture or initials.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Call Forwarding.
  4. Tap New Number.
  5. Tap Forward To.
  6. Enter a phone number, including 1, area code, and seven-digit phone number (e.g., 14159876543) and tap Done.

DISABLE CALL FORWARDING

  1. Tap the icon in the top left that has your picture or initials.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Call Forwarding.
  4. Tap Do Not Forward Calls.
  1. Tap the horizontal ellipses () in the active call window.
  2. Tap Hold.
    The call is placed on hold. Click Resume to resume the call.

Note: When you place someone on hold, they will hear music. If you are on a conference call and answer a second line, the conference call is placed on hold and the conference attendees hear the hold music.

Transferring allows you to transfer a call from your softphone to any other phone on the Columbus State system.

  1. Tap the horizontal ellipses button () in the active call window.
  2. Tap Transfer.
  3. Type the name of the person or the phone number to which you want to transfer the call in the Search or call field.
  4. Tap the person or number when it appears in the search list.
    This places the active call on hold. You are connected to that number.
  5. Tap Transfer to complete the transfer.
  6. Tap the red phone button to end your participation in the call.
 Conference calls in Jabber are only recommended for 3 users at a time. If you have more than that, using Teams or WebEx is preferred. 

To get your conference call started:

  • While on a call—convert the call to a conference call by clicking the More () button on the call control strip, and then selecting the Conference Call option.

 

You can add contacts to a conference call as follows:

  • Search for contacts in the Add participants field.

  • Drag contacts from your Contacts tab and drop them into the conference call window.

  • Type in the contact's phone number.

Contacts and contact lists let you easily access contact information for other CSCC employees that you communicate with often.

Adding a contact: 

  1. Tap Contacts  in the Jabber hub.
     
  2. Right click on the Contact List name where you would like to add a contact.
     
  3. Select New Contact... 
     
  4. The New Contact window will appear. 


     
  5. In the Add to Group: drop down menu, select the personal group to which you would like to add the contact.
    You can also create a new group from this drop down menu.
     
  6. Click Add. The new contact will now appear in your list under the specified group. 

 

Creating a new contact group: 

You can create your own customized contact groups (My team, Department, Project name) to organize your contacts. Contacts can appear in multiple groups. 

  1. Tap Contacts  in the Jabber hub.
     
  2. Right click on any Contact List name and select New Group...
     
  3. The Add Group window will appear. 


     
  4. Type the name of the new contact list group and click OK.
    The new contact list group will appear in your Jabber hub under Contacts.
