How do I set up a new Macbook?
If you get a new Columbus State Mac device, there are a few steps you need to take on campus before taking it home. When IT contacts you and says you new Mac is ready, you will need to follow these steps.
Pickup equipment
Pick up your new device from the IT lockers. See: Equipment pickup.
Setup equipment while hard-wired on campus
These steps need to be completed on campus, while hard-wired to the CSCC network. Notify IT if you need an adapter (USB-C to Ethernet adapter).
- Make a wired Connection (what's this) to CSCC network (it will not work properly using Wi-Fi).
- Go through macOS setup wizard.
- Select Set up as New
- install any required updates.
- When asked, choose to Enable Location Settings.
- When it gets to the login screen, the new OOBE (Out of Box Experience) will auto launch and start installing the software.
- Once completed, it will restart the machine, and will be completed.
- Sign in with a wired connection to create / cache their account on the device. (Once the red dot goes away)
If you skip this step, you won't be able to log in at home.

You do not need to be on campus for these items.
