Below are some of the frequently asked questions and common issues regarding Respondus LockDown Browser + Monitor.

Why is it prompting me for a password?

Be sure that you have downloaded LockDown browser to the device you are using to take your test. If your test is asking you for a password, you are not in LockDown Browser.

Why is it prompting me for a start code?

A start code will be provided to you by your instructor during the live Zoom session. Exit out of LockDown Browser and join the live Zoom meeting at the time scheduled by your instructor. Your instructor will verbally provide the start code after the check in process.

LockDown browser is not working on my computer while I am signed in to Zoom.

Do NOT use LockDown Browser to sign in to the Zoom meeting. Sign in to Zoom as you always do. After the check-in process, go to LockDown Browser and access the test. Zoom will continue running in the background as you are taking your test. LockDown Browser is only used to access the Blackboard test.

Getting error: "There is a problem with the settings for this exam."

Issue:

You open LockDown Browser, navigate to an exam in your course, and receive a pop-up dialog box that says:

There is a problem with the settings for this exam. Please notify your instructor that they need to access the LockDown Browser Dashboard to fix this problem.

Reason:

This means that LockDown Browser cannot retrieve the necessary settings in order for you to begin your exam. Without knowing the appropriate settings, it cannot let you continue with the exam.

Solution:

Unfortunately there is nothing students can do to fix this error - your instructor needs to be the one to validate and fix any errors with the exam settings. Email your instructor the following (be sure to fill in the relevant information):

Dear [instructor name]:

I attempted to use Respondus LockDown Browser to take [exam name] in [course section] however I received an error that said:

"There is a problem with the settings for this exam. Please notify your instructor that they need to access the LockDown Browser Dashboard to fix this problem."

Once your instructor has resolved the issue with the exam settings, you should be able to complete the exam.

(Chromebook): Why is my Chromebook is applying LockDown Browser to quizzes that do not require it?

On the Chromebook, the system may appear to be launching LockDown Browser with quizzes that do not require it. You may close out of LockDown Browser windows, and the quiz will open, or you may turn off the browser extension until you need it for the next test.

To turn off the LockDown Browser extension: type Chrome://extensions/ in the URL address bar in Chrome. Locate the LockDown Browser Chrome Extension, and toggle it off.

To activate it again later: type Chrome://extensions/ in the URL address bar, and toggle the extension on.
