Windows 11 Update: Off Campus, On Network

Off-campus, On network update instructions

This article is for employees who are off-campus and currently connected to the CSCC network via VPN. Thank you for starting the update process for Windows 11.  Please keep your device on and connected during the update. When ready, use the link at the bottom of this article to return to Software Center and install Windows 11.

  1. Confirm that you see “Windows 11, version 24H2…” (It’s ok if other updates are listed too) and select Install All at the top right. 
     
  2. You will be prompted to confirm you want to update the operating system.  Select Install to proceed.

    Note: If you select the Update and are taken to the following screen, select Install and then Install again on the confirmation prompt.

  3. After selecting Install on the confirmation prompt you are welcome to close CSCC Software Center.  The update will continue the process in the background.
     
    1. If CSCC Software Center is open, you'll see the Status update to downloading or installing as expected during the update process.Software center where Windows 11 has a status of "Downloading" or "installing"
    2. If you close CSCC Software Center, you will receive on-screen notifications as the update proceeds.

  4. Once the update reaches the stage where a system restart is required, System Center will notify you in the following ways:
     
    1. The status in the CSCC Software Center changes to Requires restart.
    2. This notification will pop up:

    3. Or, a restart icon may appear in your system tray.

  5. Please restart your computer when you receive one of these notifications, and the update process will continue automatically.

Note: Your computer will restart several times during the update, and may take 10-30 minutes to update. The process is complete when you see the Windows 11 Lock Screen. The background may remain the Windows 10 blue until your device receives an updated policy from the network.

Ready to update?

Once you have read through the instructions above: 

  1. Use this installation link to open CSCC Software Center: Install Windows 11
     
  2. When prompted, select Open or Open Link to access Software Center using "SCClient"

    Note: If you are using FireFox, you must check the box to "always allow" before you can select Open Link

  3. CSCC Software Center will return to the Updates screen. Proceed with the installation as described above.
