What are pop-up blockers?
A pop-up is a small window or banner that appears in the foreground of a webpage.
A pop-up blocker automatically prevent those pop-ups from displaying.
Blackboard must have pop-up blockers disabled to allow all content to work properly.
How do I disable pop-up blockers?
For instructions on how to disable pop-up blockers or add a website to the allow list, select your browser below for instructions:
Google Chrome (Windows and Mac)
By default, Chrome will notify you when a pop-up is blocked and give you an option to see it. To turn off the pop-up blocker, follow these instructions:
- In Chrome, copy and past into the address bar: chrome://settings/content/popups
- Make sure the top option is set to Allowed (not Blocked).
- Then click Add in the Allow section, and add the website you wish to allow pop-ups.

Mozilla Firefox (Windows and Mac)
- In Firefox, copy and past into the address bar: about:preferences#privacy
- Scroll down to the Permission section.

To disable the pop-up blocker on all sites, uncheck the Block pop-up windows box below Permissions.

To allow pop-ups on specific sites, click Exceptions and enter the URL(s) to allow pop-ups.

Microsoft Edge (Windows and Mac)
- In Microsoft Edge, copy and past into the address bar: edge://settings/content/popups

- In the Pop-ups and redirects section:

To disable the pop-up blocker on all sites, turn the tobble next to Block off (it will be grey when off, blue when on).

To allow pop-ups on specific sites, in the Allow section, click Add and enter the URL(s) to allow pop-ups.
Safari (Mac)
- From the Safari menu, select Preferences.
- Click Websites at the top of the window.
- Select Pop-up Windows.
- To disable the pop-up blocker select Allow next to When visiting other websites.

To allow specific pop-ups, navigate to the web page, follow steps 1-3 and then select Allow next to the name of the site.
Internet Explorer (Windows)
- Click the GEAR icon and select Internet Options.
- Select the Privacy tab.
- Uncheck Turn on Pop-up Blocker to disable the pop-up blocker.
- Click the Settings button to disable pop-up blockers for specific sites.
