How to set up the OWL camera for meetings

What is a Meeting OWL?

The Meeting OWL is a video conferencing camera, that is meant to be placed in the center of a meeting table. It can capture sound and video all around the table so virtual attendees can follow along.

Meeting OWL Setup in Moeller Hall

1. You will find the meeting OWL in MO 113. Please get the keys from the lock box at the front desk of Student Services.

2. The OWL is in a BLACK flight case inside the right-hand door behind the instructor station.

3. In the case you will find:

  • A Meeting OWL
  • a power cord 
  • a micro-USB to usb-A cable (image)
  • USB extension cables (image

4. Plug the micro usb and the power cable into the bottom of the meeting OWL.

5. Then plug the power cable into the floor.

6. Then plug in the usb extension into the micro-usb to usb cable and plug it into the front of the pc

7. Make sure the pc and the projector are on and then open Teams or Zoom

8. Download the Meeting OWL app on your phone.

9. Open the app, if an image does NOT appear, go up to the camera settings in TEAMS and make sure the Meeting OWL setting is chosen.

10. Please find the tripod that accompanied the OWL in the storage room and mount it using the threaded input on the bottom of the OWL. Place the OWL in the middle of the room or place it in the middle of a conference table.

Troubleshooting

The meeting OWL should pair with the computer and be PLUG and PLAY.

If that does not happen here are a few things to look for:

  • Look for the settings cog in the top right corner. You can use Grid mode or Speaker mode for different types of meetings.
  • Look for the ATS OWL if it isn’t showing upYou can look through the different settings to figure out what is needed but everything should be kept the way it is set. We haven’t run into a settings problem so far, so please note the previous settings if you change one.
