QR codes: How to Read and Create

Summary

How to read or create a scannable QR code for quick access to a website

Body

What is a QR code?

A QR code (short for Quick Response code) is an array of black and white squares or pixels set in a grid that stores data for a machine to read. A smartphone or camera can quickly process the information contained in a QR code's specific arrangement of pixels, making it a convenient way to store and access data.

Most QR codes are designed simply to transmit URLs. As such, using a QR code is like typing a web address into your browser, only faster and more convenient. (More on QR codes).

Read a QR code:

To read a QR code, open the camera on your phone and point it at the QR code. You will see a link to the URL pop up on your phone. Click the link to open the website in your phone's default browser.
