What is a display name / pronouns?
A display name is your name that shows to other participants and hosts in a Zoom meeting.
Your pronouns, when added to your user profile, can be automatically shown next to your display name in meetings. (To learn more about why to use pronouns, visit myprounouns.org)
Changing your display name
When you're signed in to Zoom, the name you have on file with Columbus State will auto-populate in the name field. This can be changed manually each time you join a meeting, or you can permanently change your default display name by setting a new chosen name with the college.
You can change your display name before joining or during a meeting, but it will reset to your name on file with Columbus State after each meeting.
Click below for instructions on changing your display name:
Before joining meeting
You can change your display name while joining a meeting:
- Enter the Meeting ID or paste the link in the first field.
- Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the name field.
During meeting
You can change your display name after the meeting has started. If you are having trouble, ask the host for help.
- Click Participants.
- Hover over your current name. It will say (Me) after it. Select More > Rename.
- Type in your desired display name when prompted.

- In the Pronouns field, enter your pronouns.
- In the How would you like to share your pronouns? drop-down field, choose from the following options:

- Ask me every time after joining meetings and webinars: You will be asked if you want your pronouns to appear next to your display name in every meeting that you host or join, and any webinars that you’re the host or panelist for.
- Do not share in meetings and webinars: Your pronouns will not appear next to your display name in any meetings or webinars. You will have to manually choose to share your pronouns.
