General information

Welcome new Columbus State employees! Here is a brief overview of some of the technology that you will need for your work on a daily basis. Each item listed below contains a summary of the resource and helpful links. Please reach out to the IT Support Center at 614-287-5050 with any questions you have.

Equipment pickup

As a new employee, you will likely be provided with Columbus State IT equipment like a laptop, mouse, keyboard, and/or headset.
Equipment can now be picked up and dropped off using contact-free Smart lockers. To learn more about the pickup process, review the details here: IT equipment lockers
Going forward if you need to request equipment or software, typically you will confer with your Supervisor and/or Executive point of contact first. Further instructions can be found here: Equipment or software request

Login name and password [Video]

To access college systems, you will need discover your login name(username) and password at password.cscc.edu.
This account information will be used to access many CSCC applications including Self-Service, Colleague, email, and more.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) [Video]

For extra security, employees are automatically enrolled in multi-factor authentication (MFA).
By verifying your identity using a second factor such as your smartphone, it prevents anyone but you from signing in even if the person knows your password. This helps keep your personal information and College data secure.

Employee email [Video]

It is vital that you check your Columbus State employee email regularly to keep up with your work and important announcements.
To access your email in the browser, go to mail.cscc.edu. To login enter your full email address (username@cscc.edu) and your Columbus State password.
You can also can setup the Outlook app to access email on your computer or mobile device.

Office 365

All employees have access to Microsoft Office 365: which includes a variety of useful applications, like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote, OneDrive and more.
Office is typically pre-installed on College-issued devices. On personal devices, you can access Office 365 in your browser or download Microsoft Office 365 for full features and options.
For full access, be sure to sign in to these applications using your Columbus State email address and password.

Teams

Microsoft Teams is the chat-based workspace in Office 365 that makes it easy to hold conversations, host virtual meetings, share files, and get work done with your colleagues on any device.

File storage options

You might be wondering where you should store your important work files. Columbus State provides a few College-supported and recommended options for storage. For shared storage, we recommend you talk to your supervisor to find out the preferred method used in your area.
One option is cloud storage using OneDrive (Personal storage) or SharePoint (shared storage). These applications are both part of Office 365 and easily accessible from anywhere using your browser or Teams.
A second option is the network drives with storage space provided by Columbus State. The Home Directory (S:) and Share Directory (V:) are both available for employees when they are on campus or connected to our network remotely.

Ask for help if you need it [Video]

If you need technical support, contact the IT Support Center. Call 614-287-5050, email helpdesk@cscc.edu, or access online resources at cscc.edu/ithelp.
You can also review the Technology section of the employee webpage for additional information about our services and those provided by other departments.
IT also provides regularly scheduled technology training for employees; these sessions are typically announced in the Update (employee newsletter) and registration can be found in Cornerstone. Department or group trainings are also available upon request. If you have any questions about training opportunities, feel free to email it-training@cscc.edu with any questions.

Working from home

Below are tips and tools that can be useful when working from home.

Off-campus phone access using Jabber

To setup your phone voicemail, see the Phone / Voicemail section below.

All employees have off-campus access to their office phone through an application called Cisco Jabber. On-campus employees should use their desk phone.
Jabber can be used to make and receive calls and to access voicemail.
You can install Jabber on your phone, computer, or tablet using the corresponding directions found here: Cisco Jabber- Softphone

Remote access using a Virtual Desktop

Columbus State has virtual desktops (sometimes called virtual machines or VMs) available that allow you to connect to the Columbus State network, intranet, and network drives when you are working remotely. A virtual desktop is hosted on servers and behaves like a physical computer would in a lab.
You can connect to a CSCC virtual desktop using the VMWare Horizon Client or through an internet browser. The client offers better performance and is recommended for regular use.

Protecting College data

It is important to safeguard your personal computers, mobile devices, tablets, and other devices while working remotely.
All persons who utilize Columbus State resources such as network, campus labs, etc., are expected to abide by the Information Technology Policy.

Working on campus

Below are useful items when working on the Columbus State campus.

Phone / Voicemail

All employees will be assigned a 4-digit extension/mailbox number so they can be reached by phone.
You will use your mailbox number and the default pin number provided to access your voicemail the first time. The prompts will walk you through setting a unique pin number for access going forward.
You will also be asked to record a personal greeting for your voicemail. When you record , be sure to: include your name, department/position, and mention Columbus State; be succinct and professional; ask your caller to leave a detailed message including their name and phone number so you can return their call

Printing

Employees can use their Columbus State login to access our campus copiers for copying, printing, or scanning. Our multi-factored devices (MFDs) use FollowMe printing which allows you to print to shared print queue and release the print job from any enabled device.

Wireless network (Wi-Fi)

Current employees or students should log in to the secure CSCC wireless network (Wi-Fi) for best performance.
